The Ultimate Room-by-Room Cleaning Checklist

🏡 The Ultimate Room-by-Room Cleaning Checklist (Make Your Home Sparkle Without the Stress)

Keeping your home clean can often feel like a never-ending task. Between work, family life, and everything else, it’s easy for cleaning to slip down the priority list. The good news? With a simple room-by-room checklist, you can stay on top of things without feeling overwhelmed.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through a practical, easy-to-follow cleaning system used by professional domestic cleaners—so you can keep your home fresh, tidy, and under control.

🛋 Living Room Cleaning Checklist

The living room is where life happens—so it tends to collect clutter quickly.

Start with a quick daily tidy. Put items back where they belong, fluff cushions, and fold blankets. This alone can transform the look of the room in just a couple of minutes.

On a weekly basis, dust all surfaces including shelves, coffee tables, and TV units. Follow this with a thorough vacuum of carpets and rugs, or mop hard floors. Don’t forget light switches and door handles—these are often overlooked but collect a surprising amount of grime.

Once a month, go a bit deeper. Move furniture to clean underneath and dust skirting boards. If needed, spot-clean upholstery to keep everything looking fresh.

🍽 Kitchen Cleaning Checklist

The kitchen is one of the most important areas to keep clean—not just for appearance, but for hygiene too.

Daily tasks should include wiping worktops, cleaning the sink, and tackling dishes. A quick wipe of the hob after cooking prevents grease from building up and makes future cleaning far easier.

Each week, take a little extra time to clean your microwave inside and out, wipe cupboard doors, and disinfect the sink thoroughly. Finish with a good mop of the floor.

Monthly, focus on deeper tasks like cleaning inside the fridge, tackling the oven, and organising cupboards or your pantry. You’ll be amazed how much easier cooking feels in a well-organised kitchen.

đźšż Bathroom Cleaning Checklist

Bathrooms can quickly feel untidy if not maintained regularly—but a little often goes a long way.

A quick daily wipe of the sink, taps, and toilet keeps everything looking fresh. If you have a shower screen, using a squeegee after each use will prevent limescale and water marks from building up.

Weekly cleaning should include scrubbing the toilet, cleaning the shower or bath, polishing mirrors, and mopping the floor. Replacing towels also helps keep the room feeling clean and inviting.

Once a month, take care of deeper tasks like descaling taps and showerheads, cleaning grout, and washing shower curtains or screens.

🛏 Bedroom Cleaning Checklist

A clean bedroom can have a huge impact on how well you rest and relax.

Making the bed each morning is a simple habit that instantly makes the room feel more organised. A quick tidy of surfaces also helps keep clutter under control.

Weekly, change bedding, dust furniture, and vacuum or sweep floors. Don’t forget to empty bins and check under furniture for hidden dust.

Monthly, rotate your mattress, declutter your wardrobe, and clean under the bed. Keeping this space calm and clutter-free can genuinely improve your quality of sleep.

🚪 Hallways & Stairs Cleaning Checklist

Hallways and stairs are high-traffic areas that can quickly look messy.

A quick daily tidy—organising shoes and coats—keeps things under control. Weekly, vacuum stairs and hallway floors, mop where needed, and wipe handrails and door handles.

Monthly, clean skirting boards and wipe doors to remove marks and fingerprints. These small touches make a big difference to the overall feel of your home.

This area is often overlooked—but keeping it clean helps everything else run smoothly.

Weekly, wipe down your washing machine and dryer, clean surfaces, and empty the lint filter. Mop the floor to keep things fresh.

Monthly, run a hot cleaning cycle in your washing machine and organise your supplies. It only takes a short time but prevents bigger issues later on.

✨ A Simple Cleaning Routine That Works

The key to keeping your home clean isn’t spending hours each day—it’s consistency.

By doing small daily tasks, staying on top of weekly cleaning, and tackling monthly jobs little by little, you avoid that overwhelming “big clean” feeling.

Even just 15–20 minutes a day can keep your home in great condition.

🧽 Final Thoughts

Cleaning doesn’t need to be stressful or time-consuming. With a clear room-by-room checklist, you always know what needs to be done—and when.

If you’re finding it difficult to keep up, or simply want to free up more time for yourself and your family, a professional domestic cleaning service can make all the difference.

A regular cleaner can take care of the routine tasks, leaving your home consistently clean without the effort.

Peace of Mind

Only 1 in 50 applicants makes it on to our carefully screened database. We interview them twice, visit them in their own homes and take up at least two references. And if they still subsequently don't measure up to your standards, we will send you someone who does.

Personal Cleaner

We don't operate in teams, and therefore you get the same cleaner every week. This is good because you develop a relationship with your cleaner. We have some clients who have had the same cleaner for years and years - and that's what we want for you.

COVID-19 5th January Update

Just to let you know we are open for business as usual and you can continue to have your cleaner clean your house.

The government has made it clear that cleaners are still permitted to work inside peoples' homes as long as Government Guidelines on social distancing and staying safe are followed (see below). In summary:

You can be outside of your home for work purposes where your place of work remains open and where you cannot work from home, including if your job involves working in other people's homes.

The full text can be found here New National Restrictions from 5 January (in England; there are similar texts available for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Specifically relating to cleaners, the guidance continues: 'This guidance applies to those working in, visiting or delivering to home environments. These include, but are not limited to, people working in the following areas:

  • 'This can include work in other people's homes where necessary - for example, for nannies, cleaners, social care workers providing support to children and families, or tradespeople (this is not an exhaustive list)'

Note this guidance is for people who are fit and well, and is dependent on the following social distancing guidelines being followed:

  • No work should be carried out in a household where people are isolating or where an individual is being shielded.
  • The cleaners can continue work, providing that they are well and have no symptoms. No work should be carried out by a cleaner who has coronavirus symptoms, however mild, or when someone in their own household has symptoms.
  • No work should be carried out in a household where any occupants are clinically extremely vulnerable to coronavirus, or households with a possible or confirmed case of coronavirus.
  • Whilst in the house. a cleaner should maintain a safe distance of at least two metres from any household occupant at all times, and ensure good ventilation in the area where they are working, including opening the window.
  • Upon entering the home, cleaners should wash their hands using soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Cleaners should wash their hands regularly, particularly after blowing their nose, sneezing or coughing, and when leaving the property.

The good news with regard to cleaning is that the cleaners can social distance from their clients very easily, and we would advise that, if you are at home when they are there, that you remain in a separate room to your cleaner.

If you are happy to adhere to the government guidelines - and if your cleaner has not been in touch already - then please just call the office and we will ensure that your cleaning continues.

Best regards

The Cleanhome Team
